Ingredients
- Butter (for the pan)
- 5 medium apples
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 3/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1 1/2 cups quick oats
- 4 tablespoons ( 1/2 stick) cold, unsalted butter, cut up
Directions
-
Set the oven at 350 degrees. Butter an 8-inch square baking dish.
-
Peel, quarter, core, and slice the apples. In a bowl, toss them with the cinnamon, nutmeg, 1/4 cup of the brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of the flour, and nutmeg. Transfer to the dish.
-
In another bowl, combine the oats, remaining flour, remaining 1/2 cup brown sugar, and butter. With your hands, work the mixture until it forms crumbs. Spread it on the apples.
-
Bake the crisp for 40 minutes or until the top is browned. Let it sit for 15 minutes before serving. Adapted from Operation Frontline
