Honey bars

Terrific for the holidays as they can be made ahead and will improve flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup honey
  • 3 eggs, well beaten
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 1/3 cups whole-wheat flour
  • 1 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1 pound dated, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions

  1. Mix honey and well-beaten eggs together.

  2. Add baking powder and flour (sifted together twice), chopped nuts, dates, and vanilla.

  3. Bake in a long flat pan.

  4. Mixture should be 1/4 inch when done.

  5. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.

  6. Cut into strips 1/2 inch wide and 3 inches long.
