Classic Cabbage Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 med head cabbage
  • 1c chopped onion
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 14.5 oz can diced tomato
  • 14.5 oz crushed tomato
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1c cooked rice
  • 1/4c ketchup
  • 2 tbsp worcestershire
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 lb italian sausage
  • 1/2c V8

Directions

  1. In a dutch oven, cook cabbage in boiling water for 10-12 minutes. Rinse in cold water. Remove 8 large outer leaves. Reserve the rest for another meal/recipe.

  2. Saute 3/4 of the onion in butter. Add the tomato, garlic, brown sugar and 1/2 tsp salt. Simmer 15 min.

  3. In a bowl- mix the rice through pepper, remaining onion & salt. Crumble beef and sausage over, and mix well.

  4. Place 1/2c meat mix on each leaf, fold in the sides, and roll up. Place seam side down in a skillet.

  5. Top with sauce and cook on medium low for 1 hour. Add the V8, reduce to low, and cook for 20 min/160 degrees.
