Ingredients
- One 10-pound ham (not cured or aged)
- 4 to 8 cups cola, depending on the size of the roasting pan
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 2 teaspoons dry mustard
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Directions
-
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
-
Remove the skin from the ham. Place the ham, fat side down, in a roasting pan. Add about 1 inch of cola to the pan. Bake for about 2 1/2 hours, allowing 15 minutes per pound. Baste the ham frequently with the cola. Add more cola to the roasting pan during the cooking to prevent burning. Turn the ham fat side up after 2 hours.
-
In a medium bowl, combine the brown sugar, bread crumbs, mustard, and pepper. After the ham has cooked a total of 2 1/2 hours, remove the ham from the oven. Press the crumb coating onto the ham. Return the ham to the oven for 30 to 40 minutes more, until the coating is golden.
