Ingredients
- 1/2 cup soft butter
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 3 cups sifted flour
- 1 tsp. Hartshorne (baking ammonia, found in drug stores)
- 1 egg
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 lemon juice and grated rind
- 1 Tbsp. anise seed
Directions

Cream butter and sugar; stir in egg. Sift flour with salt and Hartshorne. Sift into mixture. Beat well. Add anise seed.

Form dough into ling, thin roll and wrap in waxed paper. Chill and refrigerate overnight.

Slice dough very thin and bake on greased cookie sheet at 325 degrees about 15 minutes, being careful not to burn.
