Ingredients
- 6 large apples
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp, salt
- 4 Tbsp. butter
- 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. grated lemon rind
- 1 recipe plain pastry
Directions

Pare and core apples. Combine next 5 ingredients.

Roll pastry 1/8 inch thick and cut into squares large enough to cover apples. Place apples on pastry squares and fill each cavity of apple with sugar mixture. Bring corners of pastry together at top; moisten edges and pinch together to hold apple in place.

Place in greased baking pan and bake in a moderate oven (350 degrees) 30 minutes or until apples are tender. Serve with pudding sauce or cream.

Baking powder biscuit dough may be used instead of pastry.

Apricot- Omit cinnamon and prepare as above.
