Ingredients
- 1/3 C flour of 1/4 C cornstarch
- 2/3 C sugar
- 1/4 t salt
- 2 C milk, scalded
- 3 slightly beaten egg yolks
- 2 T butter
- 1/2 t vanilla
- 1 baked 9 inch pastry shell
- 3 stiff beaten egg whites
- 6T sugar

Mix flour 2/3 C sugar and salt. gradually add milk. cook over moderate heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is thickened and boils. Cook 2 minutes, remove from heat. It is easy to scorch this mixture. Can also be made in microwave. You can also add 3 T cocoa if you want chocolate.

Add small amount of pudding to egg yolks; stir into remaining hot mixture; cook 1 minute stirring constantly. Add butter, vanilla. Cool slightly. Pour into baked shell. Cool.

Cover with meringue made of egg whites and the 6 T sugar. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) 12 to 15 minutes.
