Polish Sweet Bread

Cook time: 30 minutes

Categories: Bread

Ingredients

  • 4 c flour (usually 6 or more—I really have no idea. I sift a big bowl full and add enough to make a sticky dough, then knead the rest in until it feels right)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 6 eggs, beaten
  • 1 pt milk
  • 1/2 lb. Oleo or butter (room temp or softened slightly)
  • 1 big yeast cake or two small dry yeast cakes
  • 1/4 c lukewarm water

Directions

  1. Method: Scald milk. Add butter, sugar, salt and let cool. Soften yeast in lukewarm water. Add to cool milk. Add about 1 cup flour. [At this point I think I dump it into the old bread tin where I’ve already put the beaten eggs]. Add this mixture to the beaten eggs. Add remainder of the flour.

  2. Part II: Flour board and knead. Put back into bowl and let rise until double in bulk. Punch dough down and put into greased loaf pans. Let rise again before placing in 300 degree oven until browned (1bout 1/2 hour)
