Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1-1/2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs, separated
- 3 cups flour
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 3 tbsp cocoa
- 4 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 cup hot water
Directions

Grease bottom of 10-inch tube pan.

Preheat oven to 350F.

Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks one at a time and beat well.

Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt; add alternately with milk to cream mixture. Add vanilla and mix.

Beat egg whites until stiff; fold into batter. Remove 1/3 batter and set aside.

Mix together cocoa, sugar, baking soda, and hot water to make a chocolate syrup. Add the chocolate syrup to 1/3 of the batter that was set aside, and mix well.

Spoon batter into pan, alternating vanilla and chocolate batter.

Bake in 350F oven for 1 hour until toothpick inserted comes out clean.
