Orange Rolls

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 4 Tbsp. sugar
  • 3 c. flour
  • 5 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 Tbsp. yeast
  • 1 c. milk, scalded and cooled
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 grated orange rind
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 6 Tbsp. soft butter

Directions

  1. Mix first four ingredients together. Add yeast, then liquids and salt. Let rise in warm place 1 1/2 hours.

  2. Make paste of orange rind, 1/2 c. sugar, and soft butter.

  3. Roll out dough and spread with paste. Roll up like jelly roll and cut into 1-inch slices. Place in muffin tins. Let rise 1 1/2 hours.

  4. Bake at 400 for 10 minutes. Makes 25 rolls.
