Ingredients
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 c. water
- 1/4. tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 3 Tbsp. butter
- 2 c. flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2/3 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. milk
- 6 baking apples, cored, peeled, and sliced
Directions

Combine sugar, water, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a saucepan. Bring to boil. Remove from heat and add 3 Tbsp. butter.

In a mixing bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in shortening. Add milk and stir until just moistened.

Roll out about 1/4 inch thick into an 18×12-inch rectangle. Cut into 6-inch squares.

Place one apple in each square (if slicing apples by hand, use 1/2 apple per dumpling). Sprinkle generously with sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, and dot with butter.

Seal dough over apple. Place apples in ungreased 9×13 baking pan. Pour syrup over dumplings and sprinkle with sugar.

Bake at 375 for 35 minutes.
