Old-Fashioned Oatmeal Cookies

Ingredients
- 1 cup raisins
- 1 cup water
- 3/4 cup margarine (1 1/2 sticks)
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
- 2 cups rolled oats (Quaker quick-cooking oats)
- 1/2 cups chopped walnuts (optional)
Directions

In a microwave-safe covered bowl, steam the raisins with the water for 3-5 mins., until raisins are softened.

Drain the liquid into a measuring cup and, if necessary, add more water to make 1/2 cup.

Preheat oven to 400°F.

Blend the margarine, sugar, eggs, and vanilla.

Add the liquid in which you cooked the raisins.

In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and ground cloves. Mix well.

Slowly add the flour mixture to the egg mixture, stirring until it acquires a batter-like consistency.

Add the rolled oats, the raisins and nuts.

Drop teaspoonfuls of the batter onto an UNGREASED cookie sheet.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until cookies are slightly toasted.

Yields 6 to 7 dozen cookies.
