Ingredients
- 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 5 pieces
- 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
- 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon instant espresso powder (optional, but really good)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup chopped walnuts (or you can do what we did and substitute chocolate chips)
Directions
-
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
-
Melt butter and chocolate together over a double boiler.
-
When melted, remove from heat and beat in sugar with a hand mixer.
-
Beat in eggs, vanilla and espresso powder (I used instant coffee powder, because that’s what I had).
-
Sift in the salt and flour and beat to incorporate.
-
Lastly, stir in nuts or chocolate chips, if using.
-
Line a square pan with parchment paper and pour batter in.
-
Bake for 30-33 minutes.
