Golden Raisin Scones

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cup white flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 t. baking powder
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • 3/4 c. firm butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 c. fruit and nuts
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees

  2. Lightly grease cookie sheet

  3. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

  4. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  5. Stir in raisin and nuts.

  6. Stir in milk with fork just until dough is evenly moistened

  7. Gather into a ball and place on lightly floured surface

  8. Knead lightly 20 – 25 times.

  9. Divide dough into 12 equal pieces. Shape each into a slighly flattened round with floured fingers.

  10. Place at least 2 inches apart on cookie sheet

  11. Brush tops with milk and sprinkle sugar if desired

  12. Bake 18 – 22 minutes or until light brown.
