Sweet-and-Sour Meatballs

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup finely chopped water chestnuts
  • 1/2 cup soft bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the first five ingredients.

  2. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well.

  3. Shape into 1 inch balls.

  4. Place in a greased 15 by 10 by 1 inch baking pan.

  5. Bake, uncovered or until meat is no longer pink.

  6. Meanwhile, in a saucepan, combine the first five sauce ingredients until smooth; add onion.

  7. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened.

  8. Drain meatballs; top with sauce.
