baked caramel french toast

Ingredients

  • topping
  • 1 c packed brown sugar
  • 6 T butter
  • 1/3 c whipping cream
  • 1 T light corn syrup
  • French toast
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 c milk
  • 1 t vanilla
  • 1/4 t salt
  • 8 diagonally cut slices (3/4 inch thick) french bread

Directions

  1. spray 13×9 inch glass baking dish with cooking spray.

  2. in saucepan, mix topping ingredients.
  3. cook over med heat, stirring constantly, until smooth. do not boil.

  4. spread topping in baking dish

  5. in bowl, beat eggs with fork

  6. beat in milk, vanilla and salt

  7. dip bread slices into egg mixture, making sure all egg mixture is absorbed

  8. arrange over topping in dish.

  9. cover and refrigerate at least 8 hours or overnight

  10. when ready to bake, heat oven to 400

  11. uncover baking dish and bake 20-25 min or until bubbly and toast is golden brown

  12. remove from oven, let stand 3 minutes

  13. place large heatproof serving platter upside down over baking dish

  14. turn platter and baking dish over

  15. remove baking dish, scraping any extra caramel topping onto toast

  16. serve immediately
