Sambar Pudi/powder

Remember, the poppy seeds may make you sleepy, so use sparingly.

Typically, one cup of sambar requires 1 TBSP of this sambar pudi/powder.

Ingredients

  • 2 TBSP Channa Dhal (Kadle Bele)
  • 2 TBSP Urad Dhal (Udhin Bele)
  • 2 TBSP Coriander seeds
  • 1 TBSP Cumin seeds
  • 2 TBSP dried red chillies
  • 6 stalks caripatha leaves (carbensapu)
  • 1 TBSP hurigadale (pre-fried dhal)
  • 1 pinch fenugreek seeds (Mehthi)
  • +/- black peppercorn (adds spicy taste)
  • 1 tsp poppy seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric

Directions

  1. Dry roast in a large pan all of the above ingredients. Do not use any oil.

  2. Grind the mixture to a fine powder.

  3. Store in a cool dry place.
