Maritime Fish Chowder

Ingredients

  • 1 lb white fish (cod, haddock)
  • 1 cup scallops
  • 1/4 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 4 potatoes, cubed
  • butter
  • water
  • 10% cream
  • thyme
  • black peppercorns
  • nutmeg
  • chives, chopped

Directions

  1. Melt a knob of butter in a saucepan with a heavy bottom. Saute the onion and garlic until it’s translucent. Add the cubed potatoes. Just cover with water, add the bay leaves, peppercorns, and the thyme, bring to a boil, and simmer unil the potatoes are almost done. Add the fish and seafood and simmer just until opaque. Pour in from 1/2 to 3/4 cup of cream, depending on your taste and the amount of liquid, add apinch of fresh nutmeg and garnish with chives.
