Red Cabbage

Ingredients

  • 1 head red cabbage, medium
  • 1 onion, medium
  • 2 apples, large cooking
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 cup cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 whole allspice
  • 6 peppercorns
  • 1 tablespoon corn starch
  • 2 tablespoons water

Directions

  1. Cut cabbages into quarters and slice. Slice onion, pare apples & cut into sixths.

  2. ss cabbage, onion and apple together in dutch oven. Add water, cider, salt & spices. Simmer uncovered 1-1.5 hours, depending on how crispy you want it.

  3. Mix cornstarch and water, add to cabbage. Stir until thick.
