Ingredients
- 2 cup sugar
- 2 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 sticks margarine
- 4 Tablespoon cocoa
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- dash of red food coloring
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 stick margarine
- 4 tablespoons cocoa
- 6 tablespoons buttermilk
Directions

In a bowl combine:

2 cup sugar
-
2 cup flour
-
1/2 teaspoon salt

In a saucepan bring the following ingredients to a boil:

2 sticks margarine
-
4 Tablespoon cocoa

1 cup water
-
Pour the boiled mixture into the bowl with flour and sugar.

Add to this mixture:

1 teaspoon of baking soda that has been dissolved with about 1/2 teaspoon of warm water (grandma dissolves the soda in water so that you don’t have to worry about a clump of soda in the cake)

Combine then add to the above:

1/2 cup buttermilk

dash of red food coloring

2 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla

Beat all of the above together.

Pour into a greased sheet cake pan (11″×17″×1″ pan). Grease pan with a little margarine.

ICING
-
In a saucepan bring the following ingredients to a boil:

1 stick margarine
-
4 tablespoons cocoa
-
6 tablespoons buttermilk
-
Add to boiled mixture 1 box of powdered sugar (1 box equals 1 pound) and 1 teaspoon vanilla and beat all together.

While cake is still warm (not hot), put icing on the cake. Icing will be warm.
