Classic Dinner Rolls

Ingredients

  • 2 packages yeast
  • 1/2 cup water (105 degrees)
  • 1/3 cup sugar, divided
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup softened butter
  • 5 1/2 cups unbleached flour, divided
  • 2 eggs
  • melted butter

Directions

  1. Sprinkle yeast over water in large bowl.

  2. Add 1 teaspoon sugar

  3. Let stand about 5 minutes

  4. Add sugar, milk salt and butter

  5. Beat in 2 1/2 cups of flour

  6. Beat until smooth and elastic

  7. Add eggs one at a time

  8. Stir in 2 more cups of flour to make a soft dough

  9. Knead by hand until smooth, about 8-10 minutes

  10. Cover with plastic and let rise about 1 hour or refrigerate 6-8 hours

  11. Punch down and knead into smooth ball

  12. Cover with towel

  13. Let rise 10 minutes

  14. Shape dough into balls

  15. Place on ungreased pan

  16. Brush with melted butter

  17. Bake 12-15 minutes in preheated 400 oven
