Grandma Jean’s Sweet & Sour Brisket

Ingredients

  • 6 lbs. brisket (approx)
  • 2 onions, sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1 cup Ketchup (or Heinz chili sauce)
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 T salt

Directions

  1. ace brisket in heavy, heated dutch oven. Sear (brown) on all sides on med flame. Add onions, garlic, and brown again, approx 10-15 min. Add remaining ingredients. Cover pot and simmer until meat is tender, about 2-1/2-3 hours. Serves 10.

  2. Make one day ahead. Slice, put back in juices, reheat in covered dish.
