Pinwheel Cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour, all-purpose
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup margarine
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 3/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 square baking chocolate, unsweetened

Directions

  1. Sift flour

  2. Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt

  3. Cream shortening, add sugars gradually and beat until light

  4. Add already-beaten egg and vanilla

  5. Add dry ingredients, blend thoroughly

  6. Split into two, mix chocolate into one half thoroughly

  7. Chill slightly

  8. Roll out dough

  9. Jelly roll

  10. Chill > 5 hours

  11. Ungreased cookie sheet

  12. 400 degrees for 5 minutes
