Apple Baklava

Ingredients

  • 2 apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 pound Phyllo dough
  • 1/2 pound slivered almonds, toasted
  • Syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

Directions

  1. Prepare syrup by simmering water, sugar and lemon juice for 10 minutes and allow to cool thoroughly

  2. Mix apples, cinnamon and sugar.

  3. Place 1 sheet of thePhyllo dough into a buttered pan

  4. Add 2 more layers, brushing each with butter

  5. Scatter apples and nuts on top.

  6. Repeat

  7. Final layer should be 6 buttered sheets

  8. Cut prior to baking

  9. Bake at 350 for 50 minutes

  10. Douse hot baklava with cold syrup
