Classic Crunchy Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar or 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°; lightly grease two baking sheets.

  2. In a big bowl, cream together the butter, shortening, sugars, vanilla, salt, and vinegar.

  3. Beat in the egg, then the baking soda and flour.

  4. Stir in the chocolate chips.

  5. Drop dough by the tablespoonful onto the prepared baking sheets; bake for 12-14 minutes, until they are golden brown.

  6. Remove from oven and transfer to a rack to cool.
