Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pound butter
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 12 eggs
  • 4 yeast cake, dissolved in warm water (follow directions on package)
  • 4 cups milk
  • ground masticha
  • vanilla
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 8-10 pounds flour

Directions

  1. Melt butter.

  2. Add sugar, eggs and cold milk with dissolved yeast and oil

  3. Add the flavoring and flour

  4. Knead until smooth.

  5. Cover with a towel and let rise in a warm place for at least 6 hours.

  6. Punch down down and let rise again.

  7. Form loaves, stretching the dough before balling it to form a stringier textured bread.

  8. Place on well-greased pans

  9. Let rise for 6-7 hours, or overnight

  10. Brush with beaten egg and milk mixture.

  11. Decorate with sesame seeds and a red egg placed in the center of each.

  12. Bake in 300 degree preheated oven until golden brown, but do not overbake

  13. Remove from pans to cool and cover with a towel until totally cool.

  14. Store in ziploc bags
