Golden Cream Filling

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. cake flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 2 egg yolks, slightly beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

  1. Combine sugar, flour, and salt in top of double boiler.

  2. Add milk gradually, mixing thoroughly.

  3. Place over boiling water and cook 10 minutes, stirring constantly.

  4. Pour small amount of mixture over egg yolks, stiring vigorously; return to double boiler and cook 2 minutes longer, stiring constantly.

  5. Add vanilla.

  6. Cool.

  7. **Makes enough filling to spread between two 9-inch layers.
