Herbed Beer Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup semolina
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 (12 ounce) bottle beer
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup hulled sunflower seed
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°; grease a 9 × 5-inch loaf pan.

  2. In a big bowl, mix together the flours, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  3. Add in the beer and oil; stir until batter is evenly moistened.
  4. Stir in sunflower seeds and herbs; pour batter into prepared pan.
  5. Bake for 45 minutes, until a pick comes out clean.
  6. Remove pan from oven and cool for 15 minutes on a rack; run a dull knife around the edge of the bread and turn it out of the pan to finish cooking.
