Ingredients
- 5-1/2 to 6 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 packages active dry yeast
- 1-1/2 teaspoons salt
- 2 cups warm water
- 8 cloves garlic, chopped
- 12 inch deep Dutch oven
Directions
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, the
-
yeast, and salt. Add warm water and mix well. Stir in
-
as much of the remaining flour as your can. Turn out
-
onto lightly floured surface and knead in enough
-
remaining flour to make a stiff dough that is smooth
-
and elastic (8 to 10 minutes). Shape into a ball and
-
place in greased bowl or Dutch oven. Cover and let
-
rise until doubled (about 1 hour).
-
Punch dough down and add garlic (use more or less
-
depending on your tastes and the likelihood of vampire
-
attacks.) Knead garlic into dough and form into a
-
ball. Cover and let rise until nearly doubled (35 to
-
45 minutes) Make 3 to 4 slits, ΒΌ inch deep, in the top
-
of the dough. Bake in Dutch oven at approx. 375
-
degrees for 40 minutes or until it sounds hollow when
-
you tap on top of the loaf. Brush top of loaf with
-
melted butter and serve warm.
