Ingredients

  • Michigan Sauce:
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons prepared yellow mustard
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • Assembly:
  • hot dog (steamed or grilled)
  • hot dog bun (steamed or grilled)
  • yellow mustard
  • chopped onion

Directions

  1. In a medium frying pan, heat the oil; saute the onion over medium heat until it softens.

  2. Add all the remaining sauce ingredients except ground beef; stir well, and heat.

  3. Crumble the ground beef into the mixture, stirring well to break up the meat.

  4. Simmer over low heat for 30-40 minutes, or until mixture thickens.

  5. Assembly—place hot dogs in buns; top with Michigan Sauce, mustard, and onion.

  6. Serve immediately.
