Jimmy Dean Maple Cream Cheese Sausage Puffs

(from cokerlj’s recipe box)

Amazing!
I usually double the recipe to make plenty to take somewhere.
You can either make in the small bite-size appetizer size for a party OR use the whole crescent for a breakfast serving.
You can also buy an extra tube of crescent rolls as I always have filling left over. You can make these up earlier in the day, cover with saran wrap and place in fridge as they are quite time consuming to make. Take out later, let come to room temp. and then bake.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound Jimmy Dean Maple Pork Breakfast Sausage
  • 1/2 pound Hot Breakfast Sausage
  • 1 cup cooking apple (Fuji), peeled, finely chopped
  • 4 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 2 tubes refrigerated crescent rolls

Directions

  1. Brown sausage in a dry skillet over a low to medium flame.

  2. When sausage starts to brown, add chopped apple. Stir fry until sausage is thoroughly browned.

  3. Drain excess juice; transfer sausage filling to a bowl.

  4. Add cream cheese to the warm filling and mix well.

  5. Separate crescent rolls into triangles. Cut each large triangle into two smaller ones so that instead of having 8 triangles per tube you how have 16 little triangles per tube of crescent rolls.

  6. Place 1 teaspoon of sausage filling on wide edge of triangle…you will have to sort of stretch out and flatten out the little dough triangles.

  7. Roll wide edge of dough towards the “point” of the triangle, enveloping the filling.

  8. Fold edges of dough over so that filling is completely enclosed with dough.

  9. Bake at 375 degrees for 11 to 13 minutes or until golden brown.

  10. You can use the whole crescent roll and use as a breakfast side.
