Finnish Bread

Ingredients

  • 1/4 ounce dry yeast
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 4 1/2 - 5 cups flour
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 2 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Dissolve yeast into water.

  2. Add wheat flour, butter, brown sugar, salt, and two cups of flour.

  3. Beat mixture until smooth.

  4. Gradually add remaining flour until a soft ball is formed.

  5. Knead ball until it is smooth; should take about 6 to 8 minutes.

  6. Please dough ball ino a greased bowl and let dough rise until it has doubled in size.

  7. Punch dough down.

  8. Shape into two 6" rounds.

  9. Cover and let them rise, individually, until doubled.

  10. Bake on a greased cookie sheet, at 400 degrees, for 40 to 45 minutes.
