Heart Healthy Brownies

Ingredients
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 1/2 cup canola oil or cooking oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 cup miniature semisweet chocolate pieces
- Sifted powdered sugar (optional)
Directions

Preheat oven to 350˚F. Lightly coat the bottom of a 9×9×2-inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray, being careful not to coat sides of pan.

In a large mixing bowl, combine granulated sugar, water, oil, and vanilla. Stir in flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder until combined. Stir in chocolate pieces.

Spread batter in prepared pan. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool in pan on a wire rack.

If desired, sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving. Cut into bars. Makes 16 brownies.
