Devil’s Food Sheet Cake

Ingredients

  • CAKE
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 lightly beaten eggs
  • 1 t. vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup sweetened cocoa
  • 2 t. baking soda
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • FROSTING
  • 1/4 cup butter or margaine, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 T. unsweetend cocoa
  • 1/2 t. vanilla extract
  • 2-3 T. milk

Directions

  1. In a large saucepan, bring water to a boil. Remove from heat. Stir in sugar and butter until butter is melted. Add eggs and vanilla; mix well. Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt; add to butter mixture and mix thoroughly.

  2. Pour into a greased 15×10×1 baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Cool completely on a wire rack.

  3. For frosting, beat powdered sugar, cocoa, vanilla and enough milk to reach a spreading consistency. Frost cake.
