Seven Layer Dip

A crowd-pleaser every time. Serve with tortilla chips.

Serves 8 people

Ingredients

  • 1 cup salsa or picante sauce
  • 1 10 ounce can refried beans
  • 1 large avocado or 1 can guacamole dip
  • 1 8 ounce container sour cream
  • 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 Tablespoons black olives, chopped
  • Large lettuce leaves
  • 1 can green chilies (chopped), optional

Directions

  1. On a platter or shallow dish add the layers in the following order:

  2. Lettuce leaves—arrange on platter so they completely cover the bottom and leave some extending the edges for garnish.

  3. Refried Beans – Add the chopped green chilies to the beans, stir, warm in microwave for a short time (30 seconds-1 minute). Spread on lettuce.

  4. Sour Cream – Spread completely over the refried beans.

  5. Guacamole or avocado – If using avocado, mash completely. Spread over the sour cream.

  6. Salsa—Spread over avocado.

  7. Shredded cheese – sprinkle over salsa.

  8. Black olives – spread on top, maybe in a pattern (stripes?).
