Bran Muffins

Ingredients
- 6 c bran cereal
- 2 c water, boiling
- 1 c shortening
- 3 c white sugar
- 4 eggs
- 4 c buttermilk
- 5 c all-purpose flour
- 5 tsp baking soda
- 1 1/2 tsp salt

Mix cereal and boiling water in a metal bowl and allow to cool.

Cream shortening, sugar, and eggs in a large bowl. Add buttermilk and cereal mixture. Combine flour, baking soda, and salt; stir into creamed mixture until flour is moistened. Batter should be lumpy.

Spoon batter into muffin tins. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes.
