Ingredients
- 1 cup thinly sliced celery—about 3 stalks
- 1 chopped onion
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground meat (I usually use good old hamburger)
- 1 large can crushed tomatoes
- 1 small can tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 heaping tablespoon each dried basil and parsley
- 1 heaping teaspoon oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 lb cooked noodles
Directions
-
Sauté the celery and onion in the olive oil until translucent. Add the hamburger, breaking it up as you cook. Drain off excess fat. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, red wine, Worcestershire sauce, herbs, salt and pepper and optional red pepper flakes.
-
Simmer for 20 to 30 minutes and just before serving pour the sauce over the cooked noodles. This is just plain comfort food. I serve it with a green salad (with olive oil and lemon juice dressing) and cooked green beans—fresh, if they’re available.
