Orange Scones

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 Tbsp sugar, separated
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp grated orange peel
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped mandarin oranges, drained
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • Orange Butter:
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 2 Tbsp orange marmalade

Directions

  1. to 400.

  2. Lightly grease cookie sheet.

  3. In large bowl, combine flour, 3 Tbsp. sugar, baking powder and orange peel.

  4. With fork, cut in butter till mixture resembles course crumbs.

  5. Add orange segments, milk and egg.

  6. With fork, stir just until mixture leaves the sides of the bowl and soft dough forms.

  7. Turn dough out on floured surface; knead lightly 10 times.

  8. On cookie sheet, roll or pat into 6-in. circle.

  9. Sprinkle with remaining 1 Tbsp sugar.

  10. Cut into 8 wedges; separate slightly.

  11. Bake 15 to 20 min. or until brown.
