Ingredients
- 1 2⁄3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1⁄3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg , lightly beaten
- 2 1/4 cups buttermilk
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips (and or or snipped dried cherries, toasted walnuts)
- whipped cream
- fresh berries
Directions

In a big bowl, stir together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, and salt.

In another bowl combine egg, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla.

Add egg mixture to flour mixture; stir just until moistened.

If desired, stir in chocolate pieces, cherries, and/or walnuts.

For each pancake, pour about 1/4 cup batter onto a hot, lightly greased griddle or heavy skillet.

Cook over medium heat for 2-3 minutes on each side or until pancakes are light brown.

Turn over when surfaces are bubbly and edges are slightly dry.

Serve warm; top with whipped cream and fresh berries.
