Potato Torte

Good old fashioned family tradition

Ingredients
- 2 c white sugar
- 1 c butter - may use part lard
- 5 egg yolks
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 c riced potatoes - use potatoes which have been boiled with skins
- 1 cup thick, sour buttermilk
- 1 cup dates or raisins
- 1/2 c walnuts or almonds, cut
- 1/2 tsp cloves
- 1 tsp lemon extract
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 bar German sweet chocolate - melt
- 1 tsp soda
- 2 cups sifted bread flour
Directions

eam sugar and shortening, add egg yolks one at a time. Beat well. Add riced potatoes, chocolate, dates, and nuts minced with a little flour, sour milk, extracts. Sift cloves salt and soda with flour. Add alternately with sour milk. Add stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake in a well greased loaf tin 1 hour 1st half hour at 250, then 350.
