Easy Toffee

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 c butter (not margarine)
  • 35-40 soda crackers
  • 1 c packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 1/2 c chocolate chips
  • 3/4 c finely chopped walnuts

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

  2. In medium saucepan, melt 1/4 c butter.

  3. Pour evenly into a heavy duty, foil-lined 15 by 10 pan.

  4. Arrange crackers in pan to cover bottom.

  5. Melt remaining butter in sauce pan and stir in sugar.

  6. Bring to a boil over medium heat.

  7. Reduce heat and cook for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  8. Remove from heat, stir in sweetened condensed milk.

  9. Spread evenly over crackers.

  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until mix is bubbly and slightly darkened.

  11. Carefully remove from oven and cool for one minute,

  12. Sprinkle with chocolate chips.

  13. Let stand 5 minutes or until melted.

  14. Spread chocolate.

  15. Sprinkle with nuts and press into chocolate.

  16. Chill until set.

  17. Invert pan and dislodge candy.

  18. Remove foil and cut candy into pieces.
