Ingredients
- 1 pkg (18.25 oz) spice or carrot cake mix
- 1 c water
- 3 eggs
- 1/3 c veg oil
- 1/3 c apple butter
- Maple buttercream frosting:
- 4 T butter or margarine, softened
- 1/4 c maple or pancake syrup
- 3 c confectioner's sugar
- Decorations:
- 2 c coarsely chopped walnuts
- 1/4 c semisweet chocolate chips, melted
- 1/4 c chopped almonds
- 2 T chopped dried apricots
- 2 T chopped dried cranberries
- 2 T raisins

eheat oven to 375. Grease and flour two 9 inch round baking pans

Combine cake mix, water, eggs, oil and apple butter in med bowl. Beat on low speed until blended. Beat at med speed 2 min. Pour batter into prepared pans.

Bake 35-40 min until wooden toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Let cool in pans on wire rack 10 min. Remove to racks, cool completely.

Prepare maple buttercream frosting: beat butter and syrup til blended. Gradually add in sugar until smooth.

Place 1 cake layer on serving plate, frost top with frosting. Top with second layer. Frost top and side of cake with frosting. Press walnuts into side of cake.

Pipe chocolate to form a tree on top. use dried fruits to make fall leaves.
