Turkish Cardamoms

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg separated
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1 cup finely chopped filberts or hazelnuts

Directions

  1. Cream together butter and sugar

  2. Beat in egg yolk to mix thoroughly

  3. Sift together flour and cardamom, stir into creamed mixture and mix thoroughly

  4. Spread dough evenly over bottom of lightly greased jelly roll pan

  5. Beat egg white slightly, brush over top of dough

  6. With fingertips, smooth surface

  7. Sprinkle nuts over dough and press in

  8. Bake in very slow oven 275F for 1 hour

  9. While still hot cut in to squares

  10. Cool in pans on racks
