PICADILLO (CUBAN CHOPPED BEEF)

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs. chopped beef
  • 1 med. onion, chopped or onion powder to taste
  • 1/2 green pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 c. green olives
  • 1/4 c. raisins
  • 1/4 c. dry cooking wine
  • 1 c. tomato sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. oregano
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 tsp. paprika
  • Mushroom slices or pieces, optional

Directions

  1. Soak raisins in cooking wine. Saute onion and green pepper and set aside. Brown ground beef; remove excess fat. Combine beef, onions, green pepper, raisins, cooking wine, tomato sauce, and bay leaf in a large skillet at medium- high temperature and stir for 3 minutes. Add seasonings and simmer at low temperature for 15 minutes.
