Caramel Apple Bars

Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 2/4 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups quick cook oats
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 4 1/2 cups coarsely chopped apples (3 apples)
  • 3 TBSP flour
  • 1 (14 oz.) bag of caramels

Directions

  1. at oven to 400. Mix brown sugar, butter and shortening. Add 1 3/4 cups flour, oats, salt and baking soda. Reserve 2 cups of mixture, press the rest in ungreased pan.

  2. Toss apples and 3 TBSP Flour, spread over mixture in pan. Melt caramels over low heat.

  3. Bake 25-30 min until golden brown.
