Snow-white buttercream icing

Ingredients

  • 2/3 c. water
  • 4 Tbsp. meringue powder
  • 12 c. sifted powdered sugar (approx. 3 lbs)
  • 1-1/4 c. shortening
  • 1/2 tsp. almond flavoring
  • 1/2 tsp. clear vanilla flavoring
  • 1/4 tsp. butter flavoring

Directions

  1. Whip water and meringue powder until peaks form. Add 4 c. sugar (1 c. at a time), beating after each addition, on low speed.

  2. Alternately add shortening and rest of sugar. Add flavorings; beat at low speed until smooth.

  3. Makes 7 cups

  4. 1/2 recipe makes about 2-2/3 cups
