Oven Beef Stew

Serves 6 people

Ingredients

  • 1 T flour
  • 1 t salt
  • dash pepper
  • 3 lbs beef chuck, cut in 1-inch cubes
  • 2 T shortening
  • 1- 10 1/2 oz can condensed tomato soup
  • 1 soup can water ( 1 1/14 cup)
  • 1 small chopped onion
  • 1/4 t dried basil, crushed
  • 6 medium red potatoes, peeled, pared and cubed
  • 2 medium carrots, cut 1 inch
  • additional- 1/2 cup water

Directions

  1. Combine flour, salt, and pepper; coat meat cubes in seasoned flour. Brown in hot shortening in small Dutch oven.

  2. Add soup, water, onion, and basil.

  3. Cover and bake in oven @ 375 for 1 hour.

  4. Add potatoes, carrots, and addtl water- 1/2 cup. Cover and bake additional 1 hour or till tender.
