Ingredients
- 1 cup softened butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 egg yolks (slightly beaten with 1 tablespoon of water)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
- For topping
- 2 egg whites
- 1 cup brown sugar
Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter.

Add sugars.

Beat well.

Beat in egg yolks and vanilla extract.

In a seperate bowl. sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

Add to creamed mixture.

Press dough flat onto a greased 10 × 14 baking sheet.

Cover with chocolate chips.

Bake for 10 minutes.

Reduce oven temperature to 325 degrees.

Make meringue topping; beat egg whites until very stiff.

Add brown sugar and beat well.

Remove pan from oven.

Spread meringue across top of dough.

Return pan to oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until meringue is very lightly browned and dough has set.

Let cool.

Cut into bars.
