Traditional Coffee Cake

Ingredients

  • Cake:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1-1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 c shortening/butter
  • 1-1/2 c milk
  • 2 eggs
  • Topping:
  • 2/3 c brown sugar
  • 1/2 c flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 6 T firm butter.

Directions

  1. at oven to 375. Grease an 8 by 8 pan.

  2. Blend all ingredients except topping, beat well for 30 seconds. Spread in pan.

  3. Combine topping ingredients in separate bowl. Mix until crumbly.

  4. Sprinkle topping over batter. Bake 30-40 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
