King Cake

Ingredients

  • Dough:
  • 1 env yeast,1/4 c warm water, 1 t sugar & flour
  • 1/2 c milk
  • 1 c butter
  • 1/2 c sugar (less 1 t from above)
  • 2 yolks, 2 eggs
  • ~4 c flour
  • Filling:
  • 1 can pie filling (drain extra liquid)
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 1/4 c sugar
  • 2 TB flour
  • 2 yolks
  • 1 t vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 2 TB water

Directions

  1. Dough: proof yeast.

  2. Heat milk, add butter, sugar.

  3. In lg bowl, cool, add eggs, yeast.

  4. Flour, knead, rise 1-2hr, pat down, refrig overnight.

  5. dough, roll rectangle 30×9.

  6. Comb cream cheese, sugar, flour, yolks, vanilla.

  7. On dough: strip cream cheese, strip pie filling

  8. Fold edges over, shape into circle, cut deep vents. Rise 30min.

  9. 350/25-30
